Christmas Light Hanging FAQ
Straight answers about quotes, install day, takedown, and everything in between.
Quotes and Booking
How do I get a quote?
Text a photo of the front of your house to (470) 470-4485, along with your address. Take it from across the street so the whole roofline is in the frame. Tell us what you want lit, or just say "make it look nice" and we will suggest something. We send back a free, written, itemized quote. If you would rather type, the contact form takes photos too.
Can you really quote from one photo?
Most of the time, yes. The photo shows us the roofline, the gables, and the trees and shrubs out front. The address lets us check the rest of the roof from above. If something is hidden, like a back roofline you want lit or a tree behind the garage, we will ask for one more photo.
What changes the price of a quote?
Mostly the amount of roofline you want lit and how tall the house is. A steep roof, a third story, or a gable over the front door adds time on the ladder. Trees and shrubs are priced one by one, and a big tree takes a lot more light than people expect. Tighter spacing, garland, wreaths, and other extras add to it. Every piece is its own line, so you can keep or drop anything.
When should I book?
As early as you can. We hang lights from late October to about mid-December, and the earlier dates fill first. Booking in September or early October gives you the widest choice of install days. Later requests still get fit in where we have room, but the calendar gets tighter every week.
Install Day
What happens on install day?
We measure each run, cut the LED strands to fit, and clip them on. Then we plug everything in, check every section, and set the timer. Most homes are done in a day. You do not need to be home as long as we can reach the outlets and the gate. Our install day checklist covers the few things worth doing beforehand.
What is included?
The quote covers the lights, the clips, the install, the timer, and the January takedown. If a section goes dark during the season, text us a photo and it goes on our next route. We also store the lights between seasons. Our post on what a professional install includes goes line by line.
Will you put holes in my roof or gutters?
No. We use shingle clips, gutter clips, and tension wraps. Nothing gets stapled, nailed, or screwed into your house, so there is nothing to patch in January.
What kind of lights do you use?
Commercial-grade LED strands, cut to your measured runs. You can pick warm white, cool white, or multicolor, and C9 bulbs, C7 bulbs, or mini lights. C9s are the classic big bulbs on a roofline. Mini lights are what usually go around tree trunks and on shrubs.
Trees, Shrubs, and Neighborhoods
Can you wrap our trees and shrubs?
Yes. We wrap trunks, light up branches, and cover shrubs and hedges. Each tree or shrub is its own line on the quote, so you can start with the two out front and add more next year. See trees and shrubs for how we do it.
Our HOA has rules about holiday lights. Can you help?
Yes. Many subdivisions have rules about when lights can go up and come down, and some want a form first. Send us the rules with your photo and we will plan the install around them. We also light subdivision entrances, signs, and clubhouses for HOA boards. See HOA and entrances.
Do you work with small businesses?
Yes. Storefronts, offices, and restaurants get the same process: send a photo, get a quote, and we hang it on a day that works around your hours. See small business lighting.
Takedown, Storage, and Permanent Lights
When do the lights come down?
In January. We take everything down, coil each strand, and label it by where it hung, like "front roofline" or "left maple." That way next year goes up faster. More on the takedown and storage page.
Can you store the lights for us?
Yes, and it is included. The lights are ours, so after the January takedown we store them until next season. You never have to find room for a bin of lights in the garage or attic.
Do you install permanent lights?
Yes. Permanent lights stay mounted along the roofline all year and are made to be barely noticeable in daylight. You turn them on for Christmas and any other time you like. It is a different project from seasonal lights, so we quote it separately. See permanent lights.
Where do you work?
Mostly in the North Atlanta suburbs: Alpharetta, Roswell, Cumming, Johns Creek, Sandy Springs, and Dunwoody. We also hang lights across the rest of the metro, including Cobb, Gwinnett, DeKalb, Cherokee, and the South Metro. The full list is on the areas page.
