A professional Christmas light install covers the whole season, not just one afternoon on a ladder. You get a written quote, strands cut to your actual roofline, clips that leave no holes, a timer that turns everything on and off for you, help if a section goes dark in December, and a crew that takes it all down in January. The only jobs left for you are texting a photo and enjoying the house at night.
That’s the short version. Here’s what each piece looks like, so you know what to expect and what to ask about before you book.
Step one: the quote (a photo is usually enough)
Most people start by texting one photo of the front of the house and the address to (470) 470-4485. From that we can see the roofline, the gables, the trees near the front, and how tall the house is. If something is hidden, like a back section you want lit or a tree off to the side, a second photo helps.
You get back a free written quote. It’s itemized, so the roofline is one line, the trees are another, and anything extra (wreaths, a lit walkway, porch columns) sits on its own line. That makes it easy to trim the plan if you want less, or add to it if you want more.
What moves the number:
- Footage. More feet of roofline means more strand and more clips. Our roofline measuring guide shows how to get a rough figure yourself.
- Height and pitch. A one-story ranch goes faster than a steep two-story with a third-floor dormer.
- Trees and shrubs. Trunk size, height, and how tight the wrap spacing is.
- Density. One line along the gutter uses less than outlining both the gutter and every peak.
- Specialty pieces. Wreaths, garland, columns, and pathway lights.
We don’t publish a price list, because two houses on the same street can need very different amounts of light.
What comes on the truck
Commercial-grade LED strands
We use commercial-grade LED strands, cut to the runs we measured for your house. That’s the big difference from a box of store lights. A strand that is cut to length ends where the roofline ends, so you don’t get a coil of extra wire tucked behind a downspout or a gap because the set came up two feet short. You can pick warm white, cool white, or multicolor, and C9 or C7 bulbs for the roofline or mini lights for shrubs and trunks.
Clips, not nails
Nothing gets stapled, nailed, or screwed into your house. Shingle clips slide under the shingle edge. Gutter clips hook onto the lip of the gutter. On trees and porch columns we use tension wraps. When the lights come down in January, the clips go with them and the house looks exactly like it did in October.
A timer
Before we leave, we set a timer. The lights come on at dusk and go off at the time you pick. You never have to remember to plug anything in, and nobody has to go outside in slippers at 11 p.m.
Install day, start to finish
Most homes are done in a day. A typical visit goes like this:
- We walk the house and confirm the plan from your quote.
- Clips go on along the gutter and up the gables.
- Strands go into the clips, bulb by bulb, and the runs get connected.
- Trees and shrubs get wrapped (if they’re on the quote), which is covered on our trees and shrubs page.
- Everything is plugged in and tested.
- The timer gets set, and we clean up any packaging before we pull away.
If you want to be ready for that day, our install day checklist covers the ten-minute prep that saves the most time.
In-season service: what happens if a section goes dark
Weather happens. A strand can get knocked loose by wind, a squirrel, or a stray football. If part of your display goes dark, text a photo of the dark section to the same number. It goes on the next route, and we fix it on that visit. You don’t climb anything.
January takedown (and nothing to store)
This is the part people love most. In January we come back, take everything down, pull the clips, and coil and label the strands. We store them until next season, so the lights don’t end up in your garage or cooking in the attic all summer. Next fall, the same measured strands are ready for your house again. The takedown and storage page has the details.
What a pro install doesn’t include
Honest list, so there are no surprises:
- Indoor decorating. We work outside. Your tree in the living room is all yours.
- Electrical work. We plug into your existing outdoor outlets. If you don’t have one near the front, tell us when you text the photo so we can plan the cord route.
- Inflatables and yard figures. We focus on lights, wreaths, and garland.
- Year-round lighting. Seasonal lights come down in January. If you want lights that stay up and change color for other holidays, look at permanent lights, which is a separate install.
Pro install vs. doing it yourself
Doing it yourself is a fine choice for a single-story house with an easy roofline and a sturdy ladder. It gets harder with steep pitches, second-story gables, and the reality of untangling last year’s strands in the driveway. The real trade is time and ladder work in November, then the same again in January, plus a place to keep everything for ten months.
A lot of the people who text us are hiring someone for the first time. Busy parents, people who just bought a bigger house, and folks who promised themselves last January they’d never do it again. If that’s you, the roofline lights service is where most first installs start, and the whole-house package adds trees, shrubs, and a wreath or two.
Where we work
We hang lights across the metro, organized by county. That includes Cobb County, Gwinnett County, North Fulton, DeKalb County, and Cherokee County, plus the South Metro. Small shops and HOA entrances get their own plans on the small business and HOA and entrances pages.
Quick checklist: what to ask any installer
- Is the quote written and itemized?
- Are strands cut to my house, or are they standard boxed sets?
- How do the lights attach? (You want clips, never nails or staples.)
- Is a timer included and set at install?
- What happens if a section goes dark in December?
- When do the lights come down, and is storage offered?
If you’re ready to see what your house would need, text a photo to (470) 470-4485 or send it through the contact form.
Common questions
What is included in a professional Christmas light install?
A written, itemized quote, commercial-grade LED strands cut to your measured runs, clips that hold the lights without nails or staples, a timer set before we leave, in-season service if a section goes dark, and takedown in January, with the lights stored until next season.
Do I need to be home on install day?
Tell us when you book, and we will plan around your schedule. Either way, we need a working outdoor outlet, a clear path to the roofline, and a gate code or an open side gate if the outlet is in the backyard. Text us anything we should know, like a dog in the yard or a sprinkler run that morning.
Will the clips damage my shingles or gutters?
No holes go into the house. Shingle clips slide under the edge of a shingle, gutter clips hook the lip of the gutter, and tension wraps hold strands on trees and columns. When we take the display down in January, the clips come off with it.
How do I get a quote for my house?
Text one photo of the front of your house plus the address to (470) 470-4485, or use the form on the contact page. We send back a free written quote with each part of the display listed on its own line.
